Parklane Mattresses Attends CCA Hero Gala

This past Saturday ten representatives of Parklane Mattresses attended the Children’s Cancer Association’s annual Hero Gala event at the Portland Art Museum.

As a proud sponsor, Parklane Mattresses attended the Children’s Cancer Association’s annual Hero Gala on September 22, 2012 at the Portland Art Museum. The event featured neon attire where guests mingled around the many silent auction items during cocktail hour. Then guests were seated down to a steak dinner with musical entertainment by Grammy Award-winning artist Patrick Lamb. Speakers included founder Regina Ellis, who introduced her new GGS program: Give Get Share, and CCA parent Chunda Starr who shared her personal experience with CCA’s programs. The evening was concluded with a paddle raise, which alone raised $380,000. All proceeds raised at this event will go towards funding the many CCA programs in 2013.

CCA offers award-winning programs and resources to seriously ill children (newborns to 18), their families and the medical professionals who care for them. They service all children seeking cancer treatment in Oregon and SW Washington. When seriously ill kids and their families need more than medicine, CCA is there with compassion and innovation creating moments of respite and hope, in the hospital and at home. Managed by a professional staff and powered by volunteers, CCA brings soothing music in a time of crisis, friendship in a time of loneliness, resources in a time of turmoil and vital support in the midst of life-threatening illness. They call it Joy Rx.

Whether it was a close friend, grandparent, parent or cousin, Parklane’s extended family has/is suffering from the damage cancer causes. It’s easy to focus on the negative aspects of disease, but it’s organizations like CCA that take a different approach—a positive one. It’s all about living in the moment, surrounded by joy and creating memories.
